Do I need to service my boat every year?

Yes, basic maintenance should be performed at least once a year. In New England, outboards should be winterized for winter and commissioned for spring. This can include engine oil change, gear oil change, water pump, thermostat, fuel filters, Spark plugs, injector cleaning, VST filter services, belt inspection, charging system, corrosion anode replacement, power trim operation, and steering inspection.

What are boat systems?

The electrical and plumbing side of the boat. This can be the bilge pump, nav lights, batteries, horn, live well, fish box, fresh water and saltwater systems.

When should I change my water pump and thermostats?

The general rule of thumb in saltwater environments is to change every other year. This allows the lower units driveshaft splines to be lubricated, driveshaft seals inspected/replaced, and the block to be flushed and fasteners lubricated before the saltwater environment corrodes expensive components!
